If you listen to his full mutterngs though, he knows. He probably justified what he did by seeing the events in the wrong way. I believe he's telling the truth through his addled perception. Hes telling the truth, no doubt in my mind. He just waited to explain his actions, thats not the act of a murderer. He waited for Bruce, he didn't rearrange the scene or clean his clothes. He *wants* to be a good person and he isn't able to feign sincerity as demonstrated when he tried to "charm" Harley.
